Looking back through photos from the girls 2nd birthday and I still am blown away that these are my two little preemies! Where did my 4 pounders go?!? We kept their birthday party pretty simple and thankfully the rain held off and we were all able to enjoy the outdoors together. It was a looooooooong winter for my two explorers. Their hearts are happiest when they are digging in the dirt and running around barefoot. So being able to just play outside all day long on their special day was perfect.

Instead of getting the girls more toys for their birthday we decided that they could really use a swing set. So we kept our eyes peeled on craigslist and marketplace for a good used one. Thank you to everyone who was involved in the search! We ended up finding one at a garage sale for $50! All we had to do was tear it down and move it home. With a little paint and elbow grease you can make anything look pretty again :)

My husband Nick and I put it all together once we got it to our house. We created a little playhouse underneath the slide all from materials we had laying around the house. It's the greatest feeling to put the resources around you to good use. The wood was mostly pallet wood and left overs from other projects. An old hub cap for a steering wheel. A bicycle bell for the door. The back of an old chair for the "gate" into their playhouse. The kitchen part was actually put together by my uncle as a gift from our bridal shower 10 years ago. I don't think he would mind that we cut it in half to fit in the girls' mini kitchen. ;) And the address numbers were extras I found in the garage and knew instantly where they belonged. The only thing we bought new and what a lot of you have asked about, were the disc swings! Seriously these are the best! The girls LOVE them, I LOVE them, and every now and then when the coast is clear, Hershel gets to love them too. I got them on Amazon for $30 and they are SO worth it! Make sure to scroll all the way to the bottom to see the BEFORE photos of the swing set! I love seeing the transformation!

The kids dug for dinosaurs in the sand, ate watermelon on a stick and rode on a sled pulled behind the john deere mower. It was one of my favorite days with my girls and a lot of wonderful memories were made. We have so much to be thankful for and although these girls make life crazy busy they also make it just as sweet. And as in the lyrics from their current favorite movie, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang -

Truly scrumptious
You two are truly scrumptious
Scrumptious as the breeze across the bay
When you're smiling
It's so delicious
So beguiling
You're the answer to my wishes

Here's what the swing set looked like before some pretty paint:
